Screening of "Lost Boys of Sudan"

  • Thursday, May 05, 2011
  • 7:00 PM
  • Angelika Film Center & Cafe at Mockingbird Station
Women in Film.Dallas is pleased to partner with Friends of Lost Boys / DFW to bring this poignant film by Highland Park graduate and Oscar Award winner, Megan Mylan to the Angelika Film Center on Thursday, May 5.

Lost Boys of Sudan is an Emmy-nominated feature-length documentary that follows two Sudanese refugees on an extraordinary journey from Africa to America. Orphaned as young boys in one of Africa's cruelest civil wars, Peter Dut and Santino Chuor survived lion attacks and militia gunfire to reach a refugee camp in Kenya along with thousands of other children. From there, remarkably, they were chosen to come to America. Safe at last from physical danger and hunger, a world away from home, they find themselves confronted with the abundance and alienation of contemporary American suburbia; trailer available for viewing at this link.

This screening is sponsored by Women in Film.Dallas as a fundraiser to support the non-profit Friends of Lost Boys/DFW, which provides tuition and emergency needs for the 100 Lost Boys in the Dallas / Ft Worth area.

This African-centric event will begin at 7pm in which the Lost Boys will hold a Q&A, and an African drumline will perform.

The film is family friendly for viewing by middle-school-aged children and older.

Tickets are $15 each and available for purchase at: www.friendslostboys.org.
